
Ōtorohanga Kiwi House Terms and Conditions of Entry​

Risk Acceptance:
Visitors enter the ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House at their own risk and agree to these Terms and Conditions. No liability for loss, injury, or damage will be accepted.

Entry and Ticketing:
Visitors must enter via a public entrance and pay the applicable entrance or membership fee. Tickets cannot be exchanged or substituted after purchase. No refunds will be given due to weather, maintenance, construction, or closed habitats. Refunds may be offered if key animals are not on view.

Park Closures and Program Changes:
ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House has the authority to close the park, any part of it, including animal habitats or keeper talks, or to remove animals from display for any reason, including safety concerns. The park will not be liable for any loss or expense incurred due to such changes or closures.

Restricted Areas:
Visitors must not enter any animal habitat, cross barriers, or access areas marked as 'No Entry' or 'Staff Only' unless accompanied by an authorized ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House staff member.

Children's Supervision:
Children must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult aged 15 or older. Unaccompanied children will be reported to the appropriate authorities.

Prohibited Items:
Visitors must not bring any animal (excluding fully-vaccinated, pre-approved assistance dogs), inappropriate costumes, balloons, balls, frisbees, whistles, noisemakers, motorized vehicles, bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, alcohol, or illegal substances. Toddlers' bicycles are permitted only if controlled by an adult. ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House reserves the right to inspect bags. Dogs must not be left in cars.

Animal Interaction:
Visitors must not touch, disturb, or interfere with any animal (including free-range birds), feed animals, throw objects into enclosures, or climb on, damage, or deface structures or signage. Remote-controlled devices, such as drones, are also prohibited. If an object falls into a habitat, do not attempt to retrieve it—notify staff.

Appropriate Attire:
All visitors must wear appropriate clothing for a community environment. Clothing with offensive images or text is not permitted. Footwear must be worn at all times for safety. ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House reserves the right to deny entry to visitors in costumes or attire deemed objectionable or disruptive to the animals or other guests.

Commercial Activity and Photography:
Visitors must not conduct any commercial or charity activity without written consent from ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House. Professional photography and filming, including by media and commercial organizations, is permitted only with prior arrangement through the Marketing and Communications department.

By entering the ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House, you agree to the following terms and conditions regarding photography:

Visitors are welcome to take photographs and videos during their visit for personal enjoyment and sharing.

By entering the park, you grant ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House the right to use any photographs or videos taken on-site by visitors for educational and non-commercial purposes, including on social media, our website, printed materials, or within the park itself.

We will not use any visitor-taken content for commercial purposes (e.g. advertising, merchandise, paid promotions) without prior arrangement and explicit permission from the photographer.

We reserve the right to request that any images or videos taken on-site be removed from public platforms if they:

Contain inappropriate behaviour

Breach the safety and wellbeing of our animals, staff, or guests

Set unfair or unsafe examples to other visitors (e.g. breaching barriers, disturbing wildlife, etc.)

We ask all guests to respect the wildlife, the environment, and each other while capturing memories of their visit.

No Smoking Policy:
ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House is smoke-free, including electronic cigarettes and vaping. A designated smoking area is located outside the main entrance. Visitors who do not comply will be asked to leave.

Parking:
Visitors must comply with parking signage. ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House accepts no liability for loss or damage to vehicles. Unauthorized parking in reserved or no-parking areas may result in vehicles being towed at the owner's risk and expense.

Compliance with Instructions:
Visitors must comply with any other conditions or instructions displayed in the park or communicated by staff.

Denial of Access:
ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House reserves the right to deny access or remove visitors who fail to comply with these Terms and Conditions, cause a public nuisance, act recklessly, or disregard park signage or staff instructions.

Supervision Ratios:
Visitors must adhere to the following adult-to-children ratio: 1 adult for every 8 children (aged 0-14 years). Groups without adequate supervision will not be permitted to enter.

Parking Terms and Conditions:​​
Parking in the ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House carpark is at your own risk. Park responsibly and do not obstruct others. Unauthorized parking in reserved, no-parking, or drop-off zones may result in your vehicle being towed or clamped at your expense.
Digtial Ticket Policy
ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House Ticket Terms and ConditionsTicket holders are referred to in these Terms and Conditions as "Visitors."
Please note: Transactions for tickets purchased online for the ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House will appear on your bank or credit card statement as ‘ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House’. We cannot be held responsible for any additional charges applied by your bank or card issuer.
All tickets purchased online require the Visitor to produce the ticket confirmation email upon arrival at the ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House. The email confirmation will be sent to the email address provided by the Visitor at the time of purchase, upon successful completion of the transaction.Visitors are admitted to the ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House subject to the terms and conditions of entry, which are displayed at the park’s main entrance. A copy of these terms is available on request.

Membership to the ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House provides members with exclusive benefits, including unlimited general admission during opening hours, discounts, and access to special events.All memberships are non-transferable, non-refundable, and must be used only by the individual(s) named on the membership card.

2. Membership Types
Individual Membership: Provides access for one adult.
Family Membership: Provides access for two adults and up to three children (under 15 years of age).
Business Membership: Provides access for two adults and up to three children (under 15 years of age).
Lifetime Individual Membership: Provides unlimited access for one adult for life.
Lifetime Business Membership: Provides unlimited access for two adults and up to three children for life (under 15 years of age).

3. Membership Duration
All memberships are valid for one year from the date of purchase. Renewal reminders will be sent via email one month prior to the expiry date. Members can renew online, at the ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House, or by contacting the Membership Office.

4. Membership Cards
Members will receive a digital or physical membership card upon successful purchase. Membership cards are presented in store and must be presented upon entry. Photographic ID may be required for verification. If a membership card is lost or stolen, members can request a replacement.
5. Membership Benefits
• Free visits for members. A Family Membership includes free visits for dependent children
(living at home) or grandchildren (up to 16 years of age).
• 10% off admission for visitors accompanying members through the Otorohanga Kiwi House
• 10% discount off souvenirs purchased (excludes drinks and food)
• Newsletters to keep members up to date about activities at the Otorohanga Kiwi House
• Opportunities to volunteer at the Otorohanga Kiwi House or in an off site conservation

6. Terms of Use
Memberships are non-refundable, non-transferable, and may not be resold or shared. Misuse of a membership, including providing it to someone else for entry, will result in the termination of the membership without a refund. Members must adhere to all park rules and terms of entry. Failure to do so may result in termination of membership privileges.

7. Changes to Membership Plans
ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House reserves the right to modify or discontinue membership categories, benefits, or pricing at any time. Existing members will be notified of any significant changes in advance.

8. Membership Cancellation
Members can cancel their membership at any time; however, no refunds will be issued for any unused portion of the membership term. If a member's behavior is deemed inappropriate or violates the ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House code of conduct, management reserves the right to cancel the membership without notice or refund.
9. Communication and Privacy
By purchasing a membership, members agree to receive communication from the ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House, including renewal notices, event invitations, and newsletters. Member information will be kept confidential in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Personal data will not be shared with third parties without consent.

ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House Back-of-House Tour Policy
1. Overview
The ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House offers exclusive Back-of-House Tours to provide visitors with a unique behind-the-scenes experience, giving insight into the care, conservation, and rehabilitation efforts of our native New Zealand wildlife.
These tours offer direct access to areas not open to the general public and interaction with our staff and conservationists.

2. Booking & Reservations
Advance Booking: All Back-of-House Tours must be booked in advance. Walk-ins or same-day bookings are subject to availability.Group
​
Size: Tours are limited to a small number of participants to ensure safety and an intimate experience. The maximum group size per tour is 25 people, unless specified otherwise.
​
Age Requirements: Children under 10 years old are not permitted on Back-of-House Tours.Children aged 10-15 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Special Requirements: Please notify the ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House of any special needs or requirements at the time of booking, so that appropriate accommodations can be made.
3. Tour Inclusions Behind-the-Scenes Access:
Tours include access to off-display animal care areas, conservation facilities, and animal holding areas, providing a closer look at how we care for our native wildlife.

Exclusive Interactions: Guests may have the opportunity to observe feeding sessions, engage in wildlife care demonstrations, and interact with zookeepers or conservation specialists.
Conservation Education: Tour participants will receive an in-depth presentation on the conservation efforts carried out at the ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House, including rehabilitation programs, breeding initiatives, and release projects for endangered species.

4. Tour Conduct Safety:
All visitors on the tour must follow the instructions of staff at all times. Failure to do so may result in removal from the tour.Respect for Animals: Participants are not permitted to touch or interact directly with any animals unless explicitly invited to do so by a staff member.
Visitors must remain calm and quiet to avoid stressing the animals.Restricted Areas: Visitors must stay within designated areas during the tour and are not allowed to enter any non-public zones without supervision.
Entering restricted areas unaccompanied will result in immediate removal from the premises.
5. Cancellation & Refunds
Cancellation by Visitor:If visitors wish to cancel their booking, a minimum of 48 hours' notice is required for a full refund. Cancellations made less than 48 hours prior to the tour will result in a 50% refund.

No-shows on the day of the tour are non-refundable.Cancellation by ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House: In the event the tour needs to be cancelled by the Kiwi House (due to weather, unforeseen circumstances, or operational reasons), visitors will be offered either a full refund or the opportunity to reschedule for another date.
6. Health & Safety Health Risks:
Visitors with known allergies to animals, or who are immunocompromised, are advised to consider the health risks associated with Back-of-House Tours and to consult with a healthcare professional before attending.
Footwear and Attire: Participants must wear closed-toe, non-slip footwear and comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing suitable for an outdoor and indoor environment. For safety reasons, high heels and sandals are not permitted.
Sanitization: Guests must follow all hygiene protocols, including hand sanitization before and after animal interactions.
7. Photo & Video Policy Photography:
Personal photography is allowed in certain areas, but guests must ask permission from their guide before taking photos. Flash photography is prohibited as it can disturb the animals.
Videography: Filming during the tour is permitted in designated areas only. Use of drones, GoPros, or other similar equipment is not allowed.
Commercial Use: Any photos or videos taken during the tour are for personal use only. Any commercial use of images or videos must be pre-approved by ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House management.
8. Liability Visitor Responsibility:
Visitors participate in Back-of-House Tours at their own risk. ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House will not be held liable for any injury, loss, or damage to persons or property sustained during the tour, except where such liability cannot be excluded by law.
Animal Behavior: While the ÅŒtorohanga Kiwi House takes all necessary precautions to ensure visitor safety, interactions with animals inherently involve some risk.
Guests acknowledge that animals are unpredictable, and staff may need to modify or cancel certain parts of the tour if necessary.
9. Code of Conduct: Visitors are expected to behave in a respectful manner towards staff, animals, and other guests. Disruptive or inappropriate behavior will result in immediate removal from the tour without a refund.
The use of offensive language, harassment of staff or animals, or failure to follow the rules will not be tolerated and may result in being banned from future Back-of-House Tours.
